Date : 12/03/10 Ref : 43/2010 Gibraltar to attend the cruise Shipping convention in Miami The Port of Gibraltar will be participating in the 26th edition of the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention, which opens on Monday 15th March at the Miami Beach Convention Centre in Florida. This international exhibition and conference is recognised as the leading cruise industry event. The event is held over 4 days. Ahead of the conference, the Minister for Transport, with responsibility for the Port, the Hon Joe Holliday travelled to Miami for meetings with senior executives of various principal cruise companies based in Florida. The focus of these meetings was to cement the good relationships that the Port of Gibraltar enjoys with these companies, and to make them aware of the new possibilities for turnaround cruises that the expansion of the Cruise Terminal and the new Air Terminal will bring in the future. The Hon Joe Holliday said, "The cruise industry is currently experiencing difficulties as a result of the prevailing economic conditions, but there is optimism that 2011 and beyond will result in improved performance. I am pleased to be travelling to Florida to have meetings with various leading cruise companies to explore future opportunities for growth for the Port of Gibraltar, particularly with the advent of the new Air Terminal which will offer cruise companies the use of Gibraltar as a turnaround port." Minister Holliday returns to Gibraltar on Monday. |
